Cantor
Ya’akov Motzen, formerly of the Adam Israel Synagogue in Montreal and presently
Cantor of Shaaray Shamayim Synagogue
in Toronto, is a native of Tel Aviv. Motzen attended the Kol Torah
Be’er Yakov and Ponevitz Yeshivor and studied music and vocal technique
with Yosef Goland. He also studied hazzanut with Cantor Yitzchak Eshel.
Cantor Motzen came to Montreal in 1978 and held the position of Cantor
at CongregationalShomrim Lanakor-Beth Yehuda Shaare Tefillah for 11 years.
His exceptional voice and Cantorial technique have earned Motzen
a place of prominence unique in his field. He has released over a
dozen recordings of Hassisdic and Cantorial music. In November,
1987 Ya’akov Motzen joined several other Chazzanim in a tour behind the
Iron Curtain which was organized by the American Society for the Advancement
of Cantorial Arts and the Gila and Chaim Wiener Foundation. Motzen
has given concerts in many parts of the world, including South Africa,
Australia, England, Israel and numerous cities in North America. |
